How do you win in challenging times? Better yet, what does “winning” mean?

Michael Hyatt achieved a big win at work, turning around his division and bringing home the biggest bonus check that he had ever received.

He was winning at work. But, found that he was losing at home.

The experience illuminated his perception of “winning” as a binary choice and an impossible one. At the same time, the experience presented a big opportunity: to re-evaluate what winning means.

Michael is a coach and author of Mind Your Mindset, a book I highly recommend.

In this hopeful conversation, he emphasizes the importance of focus, how “work-life balance” is a misnomer, why leaders must embrace risk, how to normalize impostor syndrome, and how to foster growth and resilience in leadership.

Nonprofit leaders are facing challenging times. I hope to encourage you to view the current obstacles as opportunities.

TUNE IN TO LEARN:

  • The Double Win. There is much more to life than work. “There’s huge value in non-achievement. Like I want to be available. If I’ve done my Big Three and my little grandson who is two and a half years old drops by, I can get up, walk out of the office… and just go play with him for an hour.” (Michael Hyatt)
  • The Big Three of prioritization. Many people suffer from… the tyranny of tiny tasks”, Michael notes. Learn the secret to prioritizing to win and feel satisfied at the end of the day.
  • Work Life Balance.Balance does not mean that you’re giving equal time to every different category of your life, but it means that you’re orchestrating all that so that it all works together.” (Michael Hyatt)
  • Narratives Matter. Fail means “first attempt in learning”. Failure isn’t final; it’s just feedback. “I think it’s important to reframe failure… To me, [that] is the superpower of every successful leader.” (Michael Hyatt)
  • The Million Dollar Question. What Do Challenging Times Make Possible? This is a hopeful, clarifying question that can shine a light on the possibilities presented in dark times.
  • How To Overcome Imposter Syndrome. The only way out is through.
