parenting and religious education.

Scout says I will use any excuse to share this photograph taken at my First Holy Communion. It’s true. I find it fascinating. I wonder what I was thinking. I’m guessing I was figuring if I sat real still and was very well behaved, I would be allowed to change into jeans and a flannel shirt. Maybe I was feeling quite excited about the new watch that I very clearly got as a gift that day.
Anyway, my excuse for posting this photo was a recent Pew study about young adults and religion. Young adults are changing their religious affiliation like people change their socks and a significant percentage have no affiliation at all.
Clearly I was up to my watchband in religious affiiliation. And I believe it served me well. I actually believe religious education is quite important for kids. And so I wrote about this today in my weekly piece on The Newark Star Ledger’s Parenting blog.
The piece is called “Holy Communion, Batman!”
And yes, the picture is posted there, too.
