lessons from a tired school trip chaperone
April 22nd, 2009
I recognize my privilege. I was able to take time off (from the job I don’t currently have) to join my fourteen year olds on a 3 day class trip to Washington, DC. Now there are some parents that would not consider it a privilege to spend 3 days with 14 fourteen-year olds on a class trip. The stress of keeping the group together, figuring out where to have lunch, negotiating disputes, keeping track of all 24 metro cards – would be too much for some.
Some parents might find the task of driving six fourteen year old boys to and from Washington while they honed their prank call expertise by calling 800 numbers listed on passing billboards to be a daunting one.
But not me.

OK, so I lied. It was exhausting.
But I was very very glad I was able to go. I learned some valuable lessons. Have a read – “Ten Lessons Mom Learns During Class Trip To DC“
