we’re not asking for much.

This is Leonard Pitts. He’s a syndicated columnist. I think he is terrific. I would like you to read the column he wrote that appeared around the country this morning.
For several reasons:
1) He writes about an unfathomable scenario that is one of my worst nightmares.
2) The case he is highlighting is being brought forth by Lambda Legal, a gay legal advocacy organization. I serve on its board as the co-chair of the Development Committee (yes, fundraising) (credit card ready?).
3) When anti-gay folks say out of one side of their mouth that they want gay people to be able to see their loved ones in the hosptial as if it is some kind of no-brainer and then spew anti-gay rhetoric out of the other side of that same mouth, they don’t seem to connect the dots. I do. So does Leonard.
4) For every one of Lambda Legal’s cases, there are hundreds just like it.
5) One of the reasons I support this organization is not just becuase of the legal work. But because of the public education we do whenever we bring a case forward. Becuase if we are really, really lucky, a writer like Leonard Pitts decides to write about it.
Please have a read.
